From Little Free Libraries to buy-nothing projects, these tiny grassroots movements are making a big bang.
When my young daughter and I were in Washington D.C. last year, we stumbled upon a beautiful Little Free Library during our daily meandering through the city. We were thrilled to find this wonderful treasure in such a surprising location — outside an unassuming apartment building on a tree-lined street. We selected a book (Rasselas, Prince of Abyssinia by Samuel Johnson) with the promise that we would not only return the book we borrowed, but also leave one of our favorites for someone else to discover.
While I’ve been aware of this grassroots movement for quite some time, it wasn’t until I began digging a little deeper that I realized how widespread it has become in communities across the nation. What’s more, I learned it’s not just little libraries mushrooming throughout the U.S. — little free seed libraries, food pantries, buy-nothing projects and tool libraries are also taking hold, bringing communities together and challenging the idea of consumerism in America.

Big Benefit by Starting Small

Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can change the world. ~ Howard Zinn
Darla Bradish, a property manager in Washington state, was so inspired by little free libraries that she decided to expand on the idea, only this time with food.
“I see the need for little free food pantries in my community,” says Darla. “It’s hard for some people, like senior citizens and people without cars, to get to the local food bank, so I thought why not place little food pantries in the neighborhoods.”
After securing approval from the county public health department, she launched her first two food pantries. But it didn’t stop there. Darla set-up a GoFundMe account and Facebook page to raise more funds and connect with people interested in volunteering for the project. Even the local corrections department is onboard, offering to build more pantry boxes.
“One guy got his paycheck, but couldn’t cash it until the next day,” Darla told Yes! Magazine. “So, he came to one of the pantries to find out what he was going to eat for dinner.”
Likewise, the Little Free Pantry project was started by Jessica McClard in Fayetteville, Arkansas over a year and a half ago, with the vision of addressing “hyperlocal food insecurity.”
Jessica saw the Little Free Libraries while jogging around her hometown, which sparked the idea for little free pantries.
“My feeling is little free structures both create space for neighborliness and address social problems,” Jessica explained to the Huffington Post. “Books nourish. Food nourishes.”
Individuals or groups who would like to participate in the project provide a small, watertight structure to be placed at a site of their choosing and coordinate the stocking however works best. It’s not just food — personal care products, school supplies and other necessities also find their way into the pantries.
“How I’d love to have it function is that it would not necessarily be a place for people who are really in need, but just for anyone,” Jessica told Shareable. “On the last day of school, I put some bubbles and jump ropes, and sidewalk chalk, and balloons in the pantry. I had to encourage the parents to send their kids there because they didn’t think it was for them.”
She adds,
“I feel that the Pantry could potentially be for everyone. I took something out of it and took it home because I wanted to know what that felt like. It felt really good. It felt like community.”
Multiple spin-off organizations have since popped up, like the Blessing Box, which is run and maintained by a Christian group in Ohio.
Little free seed libraries are also sprouting up. Audrey Barbakoff, a librarian on Bainbridge Island, Washington, came together with other members of her community to create a place where people could share and donate a variety of vegetable, flower and herb seeds. As it turns out, the public library was the perfect location for the venture. Established in 2014, the group, along with library staff, created a seed shed behind the Bainbridge library branch. Anyone interested in participating brings their seeds to the library where the staff will organize, label and store them in the shed. People are then free to take as they please.
“The seed library is sustainable in all ways,” Barbakoff says. “It’s environmentally sustainable because it encourages people to grow locally and connect with what they eat. It’s socially sustainable because people are coming together to pool resources. And borrowing something is always economically sustainable.”
We’re seeing tool lending libraries as well. Berkeley, California is known for its well-established tool library that is used by hundreds of people in the community. Another is found in Seattle. Liz Mathews came upon the idea that sharing tools not only makes economic sense, but also helps build community. She established a Facebook group where almost 400 people borrow and exchange tools. Liz says that she’s found every tool she has ever needed through the group. As an added bonus, she’s also connected with fellow do-it-yourselfers and neighbors, some of whom have turned into lifelong friends.
While not a free lending library or little food pantry, another community-building, anti-consumerism movement has been gaining ground: the Buy Nothing project. Created by Liesl Clark and Rebecca Rockefeller of Bainbridge Island, Buy Nothing was inspired by a village in the Upper Mustang region of Nepal that operated a “gift economy” — currency simply wasn’t used. Instead, if someone needed something, they asked. “Residents kept communal goats and sheep and took turns watching each other’s fields,” reports the Seattle Times.
Liesl and Rebecca were curious if a high-tech version could work in their own community. They decided to create a Facebook page in July 2013 where people could locally gift and receive. The idea spread like wildfire.
“By the end of 2013, 57 groups totaled 10,000 members across the U.S. Then, Buy Nothing spread to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the U.K.
“Washington remains the U.S. state with by far the strongest following: 187,719 members in 293 groups, according to Buy Nothing volunteers.” [source]

Timeline Jumping, The Mandela Effect and the Master Magicians

Master Saint Germain ~ Manifestation – Meline Lafont

Master Saint Germain ~ Manifestation

November 20, 2017
Méline Lafont
Greetings, Saint Germain here.
Let us speak about manifestation.
So, how come that you are seemingly always awaiting things for you to come and to be manifested? Because you are expecting things to happen in the future rather than in the present. So you wait and you await, focusing on and occupying your minds with the thought that it will happen in your future now. So you bring your focus to this future present in such a way that you forget to see what is there in the now and what is already unfolding in this now.
All things always linger in the now moment and being in every now moment aligns you with the greater potential of all. It also allows for all to emerge and be in this potent momentum and present itself to you as your own creation vortex. But then, you simply allow yourself to experience the delay of it because you wait for it as if it is still to come while it is already here in the now. So you delay your own creation in that sense by focusing on your timelines as if it is only there in the future.
Are you seeing the creation pattern and behavior of your human self ?! The only reason for the delay of your creations is because of your belief it can be delayed in the first place and because of your habit of always be focusing upon your future present instead of the now present. You place yourself in the future now and so are you awaiting what has to come. Are you seeing how you are always placing things far away from you in a time distance which continues to stay “unreachable” so to say, for as long as you do this?! Aligning with the Now is allowing all of your creations to exist in this now. Aligning with your future is slowing down your creation to exist, just as awaiting something does for you. And you should always be and stay in this now, my friends, for only that shall bring you more of that manifestation skill. Then you will reap the fruits of this very tangibly.
You will have to understand timelines and how these function, how these were programmed into your minds and what you have made of them through your beliefs. Many different aspects to it, is it not?! Yet all are influencing the way you experience these timelines and since these are fluctuating more than what you are used to, it gives you the impression of a roller coaster shaking all timelines into the mixer. Well no remote control shall help you to find the right frequency for you. Only the lingering in the moment of Now blends with all of them and allows for you to have a taste of all of these timelines in the most balanced way possible.
It is through inner happiness, joy and love that you access all within as well as without you, or at least that which you experience as the without. So Bless you for BEing in the NOW and for continously representing yourself as your SELF in every way of the momentum, through many ways of your infinite potential. You are so loved and Blessed that is beyond all things, represent that at all times and in all ways of your ALL Beingness. That will bring you your manifestations through a blink of an eye ~ an effortless creation not by forcing it nor creating it with intent but by BEing just that in that moment opening the door of potential through all Beingness. That is THE moment of existence within all where all lies, lives and moves. That is YOUR true moment of creation and manifestation through the heart.
Living and Being from the moment within the moment.
Now graduate yourself from this Heaven and see beyond your own eyes. Look into the heart, straight into that moment of all things. Bless you for that moment, for your heart and for your Being.
I AM Saint Germain

We Rise by Lifting Others - a Misunderstood Concept

"We rise by lifting others." ~ Robert Ingersoll

This is a very simple concept but at the same time one of the most misunderstood concepts in today's world.

First, let's take a look at what "lifting others" actually means or more importantly what it does not mean.  It has become all to common in the modern world to think that you can lift someone else up out of a negative situation by providing them with a comparison to someone else who is in a worse situation.

How many times have you heard or maybe even said yourself, "Oh that's terrible, but don't feel bad because look over here at this other person who is in a worse situation than you are."?  This approach does nothing to lift that person up or address the situation they are in.  What is happening here is that the person who is in the negative situation is basically being told that they should add the feeling of guilt to their equation for feeling bad about their situation because someone else has it worse.

The real insanity of this belief that comparing yourself to someone worse off then you are is when you go out of your way to make someone else feel worse than you do so that you can see that comparison and somehow feel better about yourself.  This can take the form of someone who is having a bad day so they take it out on some teenage minimum wage part time cashier at the grocery story who likely has enough problems in their life as it is and then leave the store feeling superior about themselves with the knowledge that they just made some poor kid cry.  Or it might be the person who goes online to seek out conflict with a complete stranger believing that if they can insult someone enough that they will feel better about themselves.

Aside from the clear cruelty is this approach it has the complete opposite effect of what this concept is all about. By lifting others up you are helping to raise their vibrational frequency and in turn that very act will raise your own vibrational frequency.  If you go out of your way to break someone else down, the effect will only backfire on you and lower your vibrational frequency as well.

So let's take a look at a few ways that one might help lift someone else up:
  • Be encouraging. Encouragement is an expression and assurance of one's hope and future in words, presence, and sincerity.
  • Be understanding. Wisdom and understanding go hand in hand. Understanding starts by being an active listener (not planning a reply as one is speaking), asking intelligent questions to gain further insights, and being accepting of what the person is sharing.  Then answer without condemning. Or don't answer at all and decide to just be a listening ear.
  • Share knowledge. Found an article or book that's useful?  Share it with your friends.  Sharing has been made easier thanks to the accessibility of sharing tools on the web, along with help from social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook.  Sharing knowledge helps us learn, discover, and understand things that are interesting.  They have immediate application for better results in our work and life, edifies our soul, and improves our daily conversations.
  • Stay humble. Humility and maturity are synonymous. A dignified person accomplishes much, but brags little.  They are secure in their standing without the need to make noise, often treating everyone with tremendous respect, regardless of position.
  • Be positive! Positive thinking goes beyond having the drive and motivation for personal success.  Positive thinking is explicit, definite, and outspoken.  It's contagious.  Build others up with your positiveness, allowing them to be open for better things to come.
  • Love. “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails … And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” (1 Corinthians 13, NIV). Building up a person with any of the other ways mentioned is only made effective when done so together with love. Care for others how you would want to be cared for. Build up one another how you would like to be inspired. As a result, you will move up to a whole new level of breakthroughs in life.
Finally, I want to talk a little about the subject of giving financial help.

If you are someone who has been blessed with a financial abundance and you feel moved or motivated to give to help others less fortunate then please...Please...PLEASE do so directly do not give your money to some big box "charity" organization.   These so-called "charity" organizations are nothing but businesses and they do not help anyone who is truly in need.

Do you really believe that any of those big cancer research charities who take in billions of dollars a year in donations have the slightest interest in actually finding a cure for cancer that would eliminate the perceived need for their very existence?  There are countless numbers of natural and freely available cures for cancer available right now.  But these organizations never talk about them, they only talk about their next fundraiser and where you can send your check.

And I had to learn the hard way that the organizations that claim to help the poor do nothing of the sort.  I spent over 20 years of my life giving to organizations like the Salvation Army and then fell on hard times myself.   When I reached out to these organizations seeking only for help in preventing my electric from being turned off in the dead of a hard winter, I was told that since I had no income at the time I was not eligible for assistance.

So please if you truly want to help someone less fortunate than yourself then go out and find someone who needs that help and give it to them directly.  Believe me when I say they are not hard to find.  We live in a world where big corporations employ the majority of the population by paying them a less then poverty wage while at the same time taking billions of dollars of tax payer money to add to the insane amounts of money they are already squeezing from their own employees.  Then those very same employees are criticized by the masses when they have to sign up for food stamps so they can feed their children to keep them alive.

Preparations, Rituals and Meditations for Restful Sleep

Due to our technological connectedness, now more than ever before people are feeling the heavy weight of severe cataclysmic and tragic events, affecting millions of people around the world, with only the promise of greater turmoil to come.
It’s easy in this environment to slip into overwhelm, despair, anxiety and depression, which only makes things worse. It’s imperative to focus on self-care and personal spiritual cultivation in order to endure and protect ourselves from the negativity which confronts us.
The truth of the matter is, however, that while we may feel like these are especially dark times, throughout human history people have always had to live through untold suffering at the hands of both man and nature. While we may feel exceptionally challenged right now, we have a long human story to fall back on for guidance and comfort.
This comfort can be found in a few very simple spiritual concepts which have the power to radically shift our perspective and instantly rewrite how we view the world and our role in it.

1. Letting Go

The ability to let go of emotional attachments is perhaps that greatest spiritual tool to surviving and thriving in times of adversity. It is when our expectations of the world and its outcomes for us lie in contrast to reality that we find it challenging to accept and move forward with ease through suffering.
This concept is quite aged in the archives of spiritual practice. Taoism is perhaps the oldest wisdom tradition which teaches the importance of being fully present with what is while radially releasing the expectation of what should be. Here, Master David James Lees explains the importance of letting go:
“When faced with real or imagined challenging life circumstances which provoke what I refer to at the ‘feeling of fear’ your ability to trust and let go can be destabilised and even swing your energy wildly out of balance… Practical or emotional challenges that appear to be beyond your existing comfort zone can cause your ‘fight or flight’ mentality to swing into action. This is when it can seem advantageous not to trust or to refuse to let go of familiar and comfortable ways of thinking and actingessentially as a means of protecting yourself. It’s almost as if you emotionally ‘batten down the hatches’ to weather an uncertain storm, but in doing so you sacrifice one of your most valuable navigation tools: your inner compass of trust and energetic connection to the Universe!” ~David James Lees

2. Acknowledging the Shadow Self

Without integration and acceptance of the shadow self, the individual is doomed to suffer the travesty of disharmony and  imbalance. For it is only when the shadow is recognized, not repressed, that it can be of benefit in expanding the range of possible positive outcomes in one’s life.
“It is a frightening thought that man also has a shadow side to him, consisting not just of little weaknesses- and foibles, but of a positively demonic dynamism. The individual seldom knows anything of this; to him, as an individual, it is incredible that he should ever in any circumstances go beyond himself. But let these harmless creatures form a mass, and there emerges a raging monster. ~ Carl Jung, On the Psychology of the Unconscious
This concept is about embracing the darkness within, and appreciating that as a force of nature, both individually and collectively, our shadow side serves the purpose of steering us toward growth. By acknowledging the shadow side of our existence, that is, to not resist its outbursts and messages, we are able to confront suffering and adversity with the understanding that somehow a greater interest is also being served, in the form of awakening.
“The shadow is most destructive, insidious and dangerous when habitually repressed and projected, manifesting in myriad psychological disturbances ranging from neurosis to psychosis, irrational interpersonal hostility, and even cataclysmic international clashes. Such deleterious symptoms, attitudes and behavior stem from being possessed or driven by the dissociated yet undaunted shadow.” ~Stephen A. Diamond, Ph.D.

3. Gratitude is Everything

The importance of practicing gratitude cannot be understated, especially at a time when so many people are experiencing devastating losses of property and so many lives have been affected by war, terror and tragedy. If the mind is left free to run wild with negative stories and is never reinforced with positive stories, the slide into despair surely follows.
Gratitude is a timeless spiritual practice seen in nearly all great spiritual traditions. From the simple prayer of thanks for a meal, to enumerating those things in life which matter most to us, gratitude is perhaps the simplest and most powerful way to transform one’s mindset for the better. It so effective and works so quickly that even modern science is hailing it as a powerful means of controlling mindset.
“The word gratitude is derived from the Latin word gratia, which means grace, graciousness, or gratefulness (depending on the context). In some ways gratitude encompasses all of these meanings. Gratitude is a thankful appreciation for what an individual receives, whether tangible or intangible.

With gratitude, people acknowledge the goodness in their lives. In the process, people usually recognize that the source of that goodness lies at least partially outside themselves.

As a result, gratitude also helps people connect to something larger than themselves as individuals — whether to other people, nature, or a higher power.

…People feel and express gratitude in multiple ways. They can apply it to the past (retrieving positive memories and being thankful for elements of childhood or past blessings), the present (not taking good fortune for granted as it comes), and the future (maintaining a hopeful and optimistic attitude).

Regardless of the inherent or current level of someone’s gratitude, it’s a quality that individuals can successfully cultivate further.” [Source]

Final Thoughts

Even leaders in fields other than spirituality have always expounded upon the benefits of cultivating a proper state of mind in order to thrive in life, both in adversity and when seeking to bring about the best version of yourself. Much of what we now know about consciousness tells us that the world is materially created first at the layer of our thoughts, and therefore, it is critical to put into practice that which we know about creating inner peace in times of chaos.
“Happiness doesn’t depend on any external conditions, it is governed by our mental attitude.” ~Dale Carnegie
